New Horizon Relocates and Expands Slater Practice for the Patients

New Horizon Family Health Services is relocating its Slater Medical Practice to a facility which will allow for expanded and improved patient services. The current Slater Medical Practice is a 3,800 square foot facility on Lindbergh Street that serves about 2,500 patients with 10,000 medical visits a year. Regina Cook, CEO, passionately shared that, “this expansion will dramatically improve our ability to serve existing patients, as well as accommodate more people in the Slater community in need of a family doctor. The new 7,000 square foot facility on Geer Highway will allow us to increase the Slater staff from nine to 15 highly-trained employees and afford the practice the opportunity to double its patient capacity, while enhancing the total quality of service.” The new facility will also include a full-time pharmacy, a service now only available at the Downtown, Greer, and West End medical practices.
The primary medical providers for the Slater Medical Practice are John Cotter MD, Elizabeth King FNP, and Deanna Cotter MD. According to Dr. John Cotter, lead clinician, “the new facility will allow the Slater Practice to see more people and reduce the waiting time for new patients, hopefully eliminating the waiting list.” Dr. Cotter also feels that the expansion will help address frequently diagnosed health issues. For children and teens, the most prevalent conditions are skin infections, asthma, and the lack of current immunizations. In adults, the issues are chronic lung diseases resulting from smoking and work exposure, diabetes, and hypertension.
New Horizon Family Health Services is a non-profit, community owned and governed medical and dental care provider, with an emphasis on assuring that all people have access to quality, patient-centered care. New Horizon operates 10 practices including a dental practice, a dental mobile unit, and health care for the homeless mobile unit.
